Bill Hayward Speaks

I am very grateful for all the work and dedication that has gone into making Hayward Field the Carnegie Hall of Track and Field., thank you, one and all. It has been just great to sit back, relax and watch it all unfold, what a glorious place! The plans for the renovation, however are making me a little nervous and this compels me to speak out. It seems to me that little to no consideration has been given to the experience of the spectators. In the proposed design there is virtually no protection from the elements, that the spectators have been isolated from the competitors and the the facility has been walled off from the community. Also, you gotta wonder what the heck the tower is all about. Is there an elevator? Who gets to use it? These issues strike at the very core and meanings of Oregon Track and Field and need to be address in an open and public forum. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Kind regard,

Bill Hayward
