Bill Hayward is Americas greatest track and field coach. He coached six Olympic teams. He was Oregons Coach from 1903 to two weeks before his death in 1947. When you were with him, you were the most important person in the room. Bill Bowerman was a troubled young man when Bill Hayward took him under his wing. Bill Bowerman became a great coach under Haywards direction. Bowerman honored him when he refused to be inducted into the Track and Field Hall of Fame until his coach was so honored.
